The folks at c.a.r.s. helped me out in a big way this week. I want to tell the story as I experienced it because I think it is important. I was 2 hours into a 14 hour Easter trip from Boston to Cincinnati with my family (Wife, 3 year old, dog) when my car (VW Jetta 2006 2.5L Manual) started misfiring. I was just far enough away from home to feel really really uneasy. I just had the plugs, oil, fuel filter replaced last week, and so I was not only upset, but concerned that I was going to have to pay a lot of money 2 hours into our easter vacation. I slowed down, pulled to the right lane, picked up my iPhone, and said to Siri: Find me a mechanic. She said there was one 0.5 miles from me. I merged onto the exit ramp, dialed C.A.R.S. and said: Hey, I'm on the exit ramp and my car is having problems! Can I come in? They said yes, come on in. I pulled in, and the Owner & His son were GREAT. They immediately started troubleshooting the codes. They were not just energetic and friendly, I could tell that they had a lot of experience and expertise, and they had experience with VW cars. I thought: OK, we're going to be ok. This vacation might actually still happen. They figured out that my coils on plugs 1,2,3 were malfunctioning, and they ordered the parts for immediate delivery. They were very hospitable and let me walk the dog around the shop, helped entertain my son in the office while we waited. The coils arrived, were installed, and the owner test drove my car for 10 miles to make sure it was in running order. He only charged me for about half an hour of service + parts. I was really relieved. He could have charged anything he wanted, and I would have been obligated to a certain extent. The owner drew me up a map of the best way to avoid rush hour traffic to get back to the highway. beginning to end the episode took about 3 hours to resolve, and boy was I thankful for these guys!
