Tips on Winterizing Your Vehicle

Mother Nature may do a number on your vehicle with winter coming soon to Cromwell, CT. Our vehicles are heavy-duty machines, but they still require maintenance to fight against the difficulties that winter brings. To prevent short-term and long-term damage, we recommend following these four maintenance tips this winter.

Wiper Blades

Whether it is snow, rain, or ice, your windshield needs to be clear for safe driving. It is advised that you change your windshield wipers every 6-12 months. If it has been on your vehicle for longer, please replace them ASAP. Remember to top off on windshield washer solvent too.

Tires

Expecting snow and ice soon? It may be wise to look at your tires. Are their treads deep enough to track over snow (more than 4/32”). If you’re looking for maximum performance, consider swapping out your tires for winter tires. They have deeper treads for better traction.

Battery

The winter months can be the harshest on your car battery. When you combine low battery life with slower battery performance, it can leave you stranded at the most unexpected moments. If you want to avoid the trouble of frequent jumpstarts, do yourself a favor and have your battery tested at our auto repair shop. We can replace it if necessary.

Oil Change

No matter what season it is, you should constantly monitor your engine oil levels and quality. Some oils thicken with the cold, making it more difficult for your engine to turn over and stay lubricated. We can help you inspect your motor oil and replace it.
